The round was announced via Business Wire on 21 July 2026 and picked up widely by US media the following day. Oak HC/FT, 8VC and Y Combinator participated alongside lead investor Sixth Street Growth. Candid Health, founded by CEO Nick Perry and COO Doug Proctor, builds a revenue cycle management platform that unifies clinical, billing and provider data, and combines a configurable rules engine with AI agents that take over manual billing work.
200 customers and 180 percent net dollar retention
The company reports 190 percent year over year ARR growth for 2025 and net dollar retention of 180 percent, meaning existing customers nearly doubled their spend in a year. More than 200 healthcare organizations run on the platform. Perry states the company spent seven years rebuilding core billing infrastructure before layering automation on top. The new capital goes to expanding autonomous claims processing and winning larger enterprise health systems.
A 280 billion dollar back office moves to software
US healthcare providers spend an estimated 280 billion dollars a year on revenue cycle management, largely on manual administrative work spread across fragmented systems. Investment in AI-driven RCM is accelerating: incumbents process claims with large offshore teams, while a new generation of vendors sells software that executes the work itself. Sixth Street Growth cites consistently strong customer feedback as the basis for the investment, and frames Candid’s approach, infrastructure first and agents second, as the differentiator in a crowded field.
Analysis: vertical AI wins on workflow ownership, not on models
The opportunity for founders is the template Candid demonstrates: pick an expensive, unloved back-office workflow in a regulated industry, rebuild the underlying data infrastructure first, and only then deploy AI agents on top. The 180 percent net dollar retention shows why this sequencing pays. When the platform owns the workflow end to end, automation gains translate directly into expansion revenue without new sales cycles. That expansion motion, not the model quality, is what earned the tripled valuation.
The risk is that agentic billing attracts every well-funded horizontal player, from EHR vendors to the foundation model labs moving into services. A vertical startup’s defense is depth: seven years of infrastructure work is hard to shortcut, but founders entering similar markets should budget for a long unglamorous build phase before AI revenue arrives, and should treat undisclosed valuations and self-reported growth multiples as claims until audited numbers appear.
